John Textor Sells Stake in Crystal Palace to Participate in Europe
- John Textor plans to sell his stake in Crystal Palace to avoid a conflict with UEFA regulations.
- Nottingham Forest is seeking to challenge Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League, hoping to take their place.
- A consortium led by Jimmy Butler is offering over $200 million for Textor's stake, which could stabilize the club.
This was reported by The Independent, The New York Times.
Transaction with a Bet on the Europa League
Cristal Palace co-owner John Textor is ready to sell his stake in the club to ensure the team can compete in next season's Europa League. Textor, who owns 43 percent of the club through Eagle Football Group, is facing challenges due to his connection with the French club Lyon.
According to UEFA rules, clubs with the same owner cannot participate in the same European competitions simultaneously. Meanwhile, it has been reported that UEFA does not consider Textor's influence at Crystal Palace to be decisive and is leaning towards allowing the club to participate in the Europa League.
Situation with Nottingham Forest
The Nottingham Forest team has approached UEFA to review Crystal Palace's participation in the Europa League, as they hope to take the London club's place. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis previously placed his shares in the club in a blind trust to comply with UEFA requirements.
Textor has expressed frustration over the limited influence his stake provides in the club's management. He hopes that selling his stake will eliminate the uncertainty regarding Palace's participation in European competitions.
Proposal from the Consortium
A consortium that includes NBA star Jimmy Butler plans to offer over $200 million for Textor's stake in the club. This deal could value Crystal Palace at over $465 million (£343 million).
Previous attempts by other investors to acquire Textor's stake have not been successful, and he now needs to find a new buyer to ensure the club's stability.
Issues with UEFA
Crystal Palace's participation in next season's Europa League is at risk due to UEFA's rules on multi-club ownership. Textor hopes that selling his stake will remove this threat, but UEFA's final decision is expected at the end of June.
