President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky warned that if Moldova loses this year, it will encourage Russia to further interfere in the affairs of Southeast European countries. He made this statement at the Ukraine and Southeast Europe summit held in Odesa on June 11.
Zelensky noted that for 30 years, Russia has been trying to keep Moldova in poverty and instability, aiming to completely subordinate the country. He also pointed to the parliamentary elections scheduled for September 28, 2025, referencing a warning from the head of Moldovan intelligence that Russia will attempt to gain control over the Moldovan parliament during this period.
Statement by the Bulgarian Prime Minister
Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zelyazkov also spoke at the summit, stating that Southeast European countries must do everything possible to prevent Russia from imposing a Soviet-like future on Ukraine. He emphasized that the security and stability of the entire region are at risk.
Zelyazkov highlighted that Ukraine has been resisting Russian aggression for over 1,200 days, demonstrating courage and resilience. He called for increased efforts to protect Ukraine's sovereignty and ensure a just and lasting peace.
Final Declaration of the Summit
After the summit, the participating countries signed a joint declaration condemning Russia's aggression against Ukraine. However, Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić refused to sign the document.
