Court Hearings on Improper Supply of Medical Supplies
A court case is taking place in London, where the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) is suing PPE Medpro, a company linked to Michelle Mone. Authorities claim that the 25 million surgical gowns supplied did not meet safety requirements and could harm patients.
During the hearing, DHSC representative Paul Stanley stated that the gowns were improperly sterilized. He noted that the company failed to follow technical processes that ensure product sterility.
The department is seeking the full amount of £121 million paid for the gowns, as well as transportation and storage costs amounting to an additional £8,648,691.
PPE Medpro denies these allegations, asserting that the gowns were manufactured according to the required standards and that the DHSC agreed to the manufacturing process.
Judge Mrs. Justice Cockerill is presiding over the case, which will last for five weeks. At the opening of the hearings, Stanley emphasized that the gowns were labeled as sterile but lacked the necessary certifications.
The first batch of gowns was delivered to the UK in 72 lots between August and October 2020, and the DHSC refused to accept them in December 2020 due to the lack of confirmation of sterility.
PPE Medpro's position is that the gowns were contaminated due to transportation or storage conditions after delivery.
The hearings also concern a possible criminal investigation being conducted by the National Crime Agency regarding Mone and her husband Dug Barrowman, who deny any wrongdoing.
