Announcement of Dr Pepper Zero Recall

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the recall of hundreds of thousands of cans of Dr Pepper Zero soda. The reason is a labeling error: the drink, advertised as "sugar-free," actually contains regular sugar.

The recall affects 19,203 cases of Dr Pepper Zero Sugar in 12 and 24-can packs that were distributed in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina. The official recall was initiated on May 23, and on June 5, the FDA classified it as a Class II recall.

According to the FDA's definition, a Class II recall means that the use or exposure to the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences. This has raised concerns about risks to consumers, particularly for people with diabetes who cannot consume sugar.

Risks to Consumers

The at-risk group includes individuals with diabetes who rely on nutritional information to manage their blood glucose levels. Consuming a drink with sugar instead of "sugar-free" could lead to dangerously high blood sugar levels.

Additionally, individuals with other medical conditions that require limiting or completely avoiding sugar are also at risk of consuming the hazardous ingredient. The recalled drinks have the product code XXXXRS05165 and a "best by" date of February 16, 2026.

These beverages were produced by Pepsi Beverages Company, which operates under a license to manufacture Dr. Pepper products. The recalled product was shipped to three U.S. states, and authorities are urging consumers to check their purchases.
