Weimar+ Ministers Confirm Readiness to Intensify Pressure on Russia

Readiness to Intensify Pressure on Russia

On June 12, 2025, in Rome, the foreign ministers of Germany, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the EU High Representative issued a joint statement confirming their readiness to increase economic pressure on Russia to encourage it to engage in peace negotiations.

The document notes that the meeting participants highly appreciated Ukraine's constructive involvement in the peace process. They called on Russia to immediately agree to a ceasefire and to abandon unacceptable demands that hinder peace negotiations.

The ministers confirmed their readiness to take new measures, particularly in the energy and banking sectors, to weaken Russia's ability to continue aggressive actions. They also emphasized that Russian state assets will remain frozen until Russia ceases its aggression.

The statement emphasizes that a just and lasting peace must include appropriate security guarantees for Ukraine, including support for its armed forces and defense industry. The ministers also expressed their willingness to enhance support for Ukraine, including cooperation in the defense industry and other forms of security collaboration.

Additionally, the ministers reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Ukraine's economic stability within the framework of the IMF program, providing sufficient financial support for 2026 and subsequent years. They believe that early recovery will help lay the groundwork for a more prosperous Ukraine integrated into Europe.

It should be noted that the Conference on the Reconstruction of Ukraine will take place in Italy in July 2025, marking an important milestone for further efforts in the country's recovery.
