JetZero Announces New Factory
JetZero Inc. has announced plans to build its first factory for manufacturing next-generation passenger aircraft in central North Carolina. The project, to be implemented at Greensboro Airport, involves an investment of $4.7 billion and the creation of over 14,500 jobs over the next decade.
This factory will represent the largest commitment to job creation in the state's history, according to Governor Josh Stein. JetZero plans to hire workers from 2027 to 2036.
The company has already attracted about $300 million in investments for its Z4 project, which promises to be 50% more fuel-efficient than traditional aircraft. According to the company, the planes are expected to enter service in the early 2030s.
The investment agreement is also supported by United Airlines and Alaska Airlines, which have signed conditional agreements to purchase the aircraft. These planes will have approximately 250 seats and a range of 5,000 nautical miles.
Governor Stein emphasized that North Carolina has a strong aerospace industry, referencing the Wright brothers' first flights in 1903.
The average salary for new workers will exceed $89,000, and state and local investments could surpass $2.3 billion by 2060. The project also includes a research center for composite materials.
JetZero, which currently has only 225 employees, is entering a market dominated by companies like Boeing and Airbus. However, CEO Tim O'Leary expressed confidence in the strong commercial interest in the new aircraft.
The JetZero factory will be a significant milestone in the development of the American aerospace industry, as the company aims to offer a new experience for passengers, including reduced noise and improved cabin amenities.
North Carolina's Aerospace Cluster
North Carolina is already home to over 400 aerospace companies, and Piedmont Triad Airport has become an important hub for the industry, hosting Honda Aircraft and Boom Supersonic.
This JetZero project is part of a broader trend of economic development in the region, including the construction of electric vehicles and batteries.
