Putin Creates New Drone Forces in Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the creation of new drone forces as a separate branch of the military in Russia. This occurred during a meeting regarding a new state armament program, as reported by the Russian news agency TASS.

Putin stated: "It is necessary to ensure their deployment as quickly and effectively as possible... We know how the enemy operates. But overall, I do not believe that we are lagging behind. Moreover, I believe we have gained good experience in creating this type of military force."

Additionally, he emphasized that the new armament program should ensure the formation of a universal air defense system.

Creation of Drone Forces in Ukraine

In February of last year, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky instructed the Cabinet of Ministers and the General Staff to work on establishing drone forces as a separate branch of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine noted that creating a separate branch would allow for the full utilization of the advantages of drone systems. This will also enable the establishment of specialized positions for working with drones and accumulate experience in their use.

On June 3, Zelensky appointed Robert "Madyar" Brovdi as the commander of the drone forces. Following his appointment, "Madyar" announced a large-scale reform to be implemented over the next 100 days. In particular, he aims to ensure technological superiority on the battlefield and enhance the effectiveness of drone forces.

Russia is not the first to try to adopt Ukraine's approach. Poland has also previously decided to create drone forces.
