Ensuring Security at the World Cup
The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has announced its participation in ensuring security at the World Cup, which will take place in Miami starting June 13, 2025. In response to questions about its presence, the agency emphasized that it always collaborates with local and federal partners at major sporting events.
Removal of Controversial Post
Recently, CBP removed a social media post that discussed the readiness of agents to provide security during the event. This decision was made after FIFA expressed concerns about the reaction the post generated. Reports indicate that the post, which attracted the attention of thousands of users, was deleted following discussions with FIFA representatives.
Security Issues and Public Reaction
The CBP post raised concerns among the public that the presence of border agents might deter fans from attending the matches. A representative from the Florida Immigrant Coalition stated that the message used in the post could create a sense of threat for potential spectators. However, FIFA assured that fan safety is a priority.
Security at the Event
The World Cup will include 32 teams competing in 11 cities across the U.S. until July 13. CBP and other agencies will be responsible for inspecting cargo delivered to the stadiums and for emergency planning.
ICE agents will also be present at the event as part of the overall security operation.
