Investigators in India are working to determine the causes of the Air India plane crash that occurred on June 12, 2025. The aircraft, which was heading to London, crashed 1.5 km after taking off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad.
There were 242 passengers on board, with 241 fatalities. Only one passenger survived and reported a loud noise before the crash.
The investigation is being conducted not only by Indian experts but also by international specialists, including those from the UK. They are analyzing data from the flight data recorders, radar, and surveillance cameras to determine what happened in the final moments before the crash.
Possible Causes of the Crash
Experts point to several possible causes of the crash:
- Bird Strike: This could be one of the reasons, as the aircraft may have lost power due to a collision with a bird at a critical moment.
- Mechanical Failures: Scenarios involving engine failure or other system malfunctions that could have led to a loss of control of the aircraft are being considered.
- Human Factors: Adverse weather conditions and heavy loads may have influenced the decisions made by the pilots during takeoff.
- Malicious Actions: Although this possibility is being considered, experts deem it unlikely.
One of the pilots noted that the aircraft failed to gain altitude, which may indicate that the engines or systems were not functioning properly. Reports indicate that temperatures on the day of the crash exceeded 40°C, complicating the takeoff.
Experts also mentioned that if both engines failed, it would be an extremely rare occurrence. There is a possibility that the aircraft did not activate the backup mechanism needed to maintain critical systems in the event of engine failure.
The investigation is ongoing, and results will be released shortly.
