These individuals had previously been granted permission to live and work in the U.S. through a humanitarian parole program initiated by the Biden administration.

Since October 2022, approximately 532,000 people from these countries had been given the opportunity to live and work in the U.S. with financial sponsors and two-year permits. Now, these permits are revoked upon receipt of notification.

The notice states that individuals who do not leave the country may face enforcement actions, including detention and deportation. Migrants have been given instructions on how to leave the country via the CBP Home mobile app, and they have been promised return assistance, including $1,000.

This decision is part of an aggressive immigration policy by the Trump administration aimed at streamlining the deportation of migrants. Previous court decisions allowed the Trump administration to cancel this program, raising concerns among human rights advocates.

Migrants' Responses to Status Cancellation

Migrants who received these notifications express concerns about their safety. For example, a 34-year-old Cuban mother who arrived in the U.S. in September 2023 fears deportation and does not plan to leave the country just yet. She is trying to find other ways to remain in the U.S. legally.

President Trump, during his campaign, promised to eliminate what he deemed abuses of humanitarian parole programs, which he claimed had become a means for millions to leave their countries. This decision has sparked outrage among human rights advocates, who believe it destabilizes the lives of those who have already adapted to life in the U.S.

According to reports, approximately 530,000 migrants are affected by these changes, and it remains unclear how the U.S. government plans to locate or contact them after deportation.
