Ayrton Costa to Miss Club World Cup Due to Visa Issues
- Ayrton Costa will not participate in the tournament due to a visa denial.
- The reasons for the denial are related to a criminal case from 2018.
- The team is left without a key player ahead of the match against Benfica.
This was reported by Associated Press, ESPN.
Costa’s Absence from the Club World Cup
Boca Juniors has announced that defender Ayrton Costa will not be able to participate in the Club World Cup due to a visa denial for entry into the United States. The team confirmed this information on Thursday.
Costa was unable to join his teammates in Miami on Sunday as his visa application was still being processed at the U.S. embassy in Buenos Aires. Despite this, he was still included in the squad for the tournament, which starts on Saturday.
The team did not provide details regarding the reasons for the visa denial, but it is known that Costa was involved in a criminal case for attempted robbery in 2018 in Bernal, Argentina.
Costa’s absence leaves coach Miguel Russo without one of the expected players for the match against Benfica on Monday, which is the opening match in Group C. This group also includes Bayern Munich and Auckland City from New Zealand.
Additionally, another defender, Marco Pellegrino, who signed a contract before the Club World Cup, is recovering from a muscle tear. Due to Costa's absence, veteran Marcos Rojo, who signed with Boca Juniors in January after a brief stint with Belgian club Royal Antwerp, is expected to take the field.
