Scottish Football Association Plans Coach's Future

The Scottish Football Association is always on the lookout for potential candidates for the national team head coach position.

The Chief Executive of the Association, Ian Maxwell, noted that the current focus is on coach Steve Clarke, whose contract expires in 2026. Clarke took charge of the team in May 2019 and has already led Scotland to two consecutive European Championships. He aims to take the national team to its first men's World Cup since 1998.

Maxwell is confident that, despite the need for succession planning, the main focus should now be on Clarke and the team, which will begin qualifying for the 2026 World Cup on September 5 with a match against Denmark. Greece and Belarus are also in Group C.

In his interview, Maxwell emphasized that Clarke "really wants to qualify for the World Cup" and that the team is capable of doing so. Although Scotland has won only four of its last 14 matches, he pointed out that the team has made significant progress since Clarke's arrival.

Maxwell also mentioned that the Association is keeping an eye on the VAR (Video Assistant Referee) situation and believes that it "absolutely works" in the country. He added that the Association has become more transparent in its operations, which includes rule changes to better manage fan behavior.

Maxwell also discussed plans to improve Hampden Stadium for Euro 2028. He noted that they want the stadium to be in top condition for the tournament.
