Hamlin stated that his priority is to support his family during this important time. He thanked fans and the team for their support and expressed his intention to return for the race in Pocono next week.

In his place for the race in Mexico, Ryan Truex will take the wheel, the younger brother of former Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. Ryan has not competed in the Cup Series since 2014, but he is a reserve driver for the team.

Situation with Hamlin and Truex

Hamlin has three wins this season and currently ranks third in the overall Cup Series standings. He needs to receive a waiver from NASCAR in order to participate in the playoffs, as the team plans to apply for such a waiver.

Truex has recently competed in the Xfinity Series, where he secured a victory in 2023, but the race in Mexico will be his first significant opportunity at the Cup Series level.
