  • Denny Hamlin is skipping the race due to the birth of his child.
  • Ryan Truex will replace him, making his Cup Series debut since 2014.
  • Hamlin has three wins this season and plans to return next week.

This was reported by Associated Press, Forbes.

Denny Hamlin to Miss NASCAR Race in Mexico

Denny Hamlin, a driver for Joe Gibbs Racing, will not participate in the inaugural international NASCAR race taking place in Mexico due to the birth of his third child. Hamlin announced on social media that his partner, Jordan Fish, gave birth to a son on June 11.

Hamlin stated that his priority is to support his family during this important time. He thanked fans and the team for their support and expressed his intention to return for the race in Pocono next week.

In his place for the race in Mexico, Ryan Truex will take the wheel, the younger brother of former Joe Gibbs Racing driver Martin Truex Jr. Ryan has not competed in the Cup Series since 2014, but he is a reserve driver for the team.

Situation with Hamlin and Truex

Hamlin has three wins this season and currently ranks third in the overall Cup Series standings. He needs to receive a waiver from NASCAR in order to participate in the playoffs, as the team plans to apply for such a waiver.

Truex has recently competed in the Xfinity Series, where he secured a victory in 2023, but the race in Mexico will be his first significant opportunity at the Cup Series level.

Hamlin will end his streak of 406 starts, as the last time he missed a race for medical reasons was in 2014.
