Owner of the Club Arrested After the Tragedy
On June 12, 2025, the owner of a well-known nightclub, Antonio Espailat, and his sister Maribel Espailat were arrested in the Dominican Republic. This occurred following the roof collapse of the club that resulted in 236 deaths in April.
Circumstances of the Tragedy
The roof collapse happened on April 8, 2025, during a performance by popular singer Ruby Perez. After the incident, rescuers worked tirelessly for 53 hours, saving 189 individuals.
Investigation Continues
Although charges have not yet been filed against the Espailats, prosecutors believe they exhibited negligence and disregard by failing to take measures to prevent the collapse. They are also suspected of attempting to intimidate witnesses.
Notable Victims
Among the deceased were not only singers but also prominent figures such as the governor of the Montecristi province, Nelsy Cruz, and former baseball player Octavio Dotel.
