NFL Expert Antonio Brown Wanted for Attempted Murder

  • Antonio Brown is wanted on charges of attempted murder related to an incident at a boxing show.
  • Authorities have issued an arrest warrant following testimonies confirming his involvement in the shooting.
  • This charge adds to the growing list of legal troubles for the former receiver, including previous arrests and financial difficulties.

This is reported by The Guardian, Marca.

Miami-Dade County authorities have issued an arrest warrant for former NFL receiver Antonio Brown on charges of attempted murder with a firearm, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

The charges relate to an incident that occurred on May 16 during a boxing show in Miami. The document, signed on Wednesday, claims that Brown struck a man during a fight and then took a firearm from a security guard, firing twice while pursuing the same man. According to the victim, one bullet could have struck him in the neck. Brown was not arrested at the scene, but now faces criminal charges with a bail set at $10,000 and the requirement to remain under house arrest if apprehended.

The 36-year-old Brown, who last played in the NFL in 2021, has not commented on the recent charges. His representation remains unclear. A spokesperson for the Miami-Dade County prosecutor's office declined to comment on the case.

Police were called to the scene just before midnight following reports of gunfire. An officer working security at the event told investigators he saw Brown involved in a physical altercation. Witnesses identified Brown as the shooter, according to the warrant referenced by the Post. Later, police found two shell casings and an empty holster, but no weapon was found on Brown during his initial detention.

Brown later posted on social media that he was "attacked" by individuals attempting to rob him. He stated that the police temporarily detained him to hear his testimony and released him that same night.

Surveillance and cellphone video obtained by investigators reportedly shows Brown initiating the fight and later running at the victim with a weapon. The victim recognized Brown in the footage and informed police that they had known each other since 2022.

The attempted murder charge adds to the growing list of legal issues for the former Pro Bowl receiver, including prior arrests, domestic violence allegations, and financial lawsuits. Once one of the league's most productive players, Brown's post-NFL career has been marred by erratic behavior and repeated conflicts with the law.

Brown filed for bankruptcy and previously linked part of his behavior to possible chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease associated with head trauma.

Miami, Brown's hometown, selected him in the sixth round of the draft from Central Michigan. He played 12 seasons in the NFL, representing the "Pittsburgh Steelers," "New England Patriots," and "Tampa Bay Buccaneers," becoming one of the most productive receivers of his era. Over his career, he made 928 receptions for 12,291 yards and 83 touchdowns in 146 games, earning seven Pro Bowl selections and four consecutive First Team All-Pro honors from 2014 to 2017.

Brown won the Super Bowl with Tampa Bay in the 2020 season, catching a touchdown from Tom Brady in the game. His career ended in 2021 after he dramatically walked off the field during a game, removing his jersey and leaving the field.
