Tesla Model Updates
Tesla has officially unveiled new versions of its electric vehicles, the Model S and Model X, in the U.S. These cars have received minor changes, but the price has increased by $5,000 across all versions, including All-Wheel Drive (AWD) and high-performance Plaid models.
According to the new pricing, the Model S now starts at $84,990 for the AWD version and $99,990 for the Plaid. The Model X is now available starting at $89,990 for the AWD and $104,990 for the Plaid. This marks the latest updates from Tesla since the launch of the refreshed Model Y earlier this year.
Update Features
Key changes in the Model S and Model X include:
- New Frost Blue color (available for an additional $2,500)
- Improved cabin sound insulation
- New wheel designs and enhanced aerodynamics
- Front bumper camera for improved visibility
- Dynamic interior lighting
- Updated suspension components
- Adaptive headlights
The Model S Long Range can now travel up to 410 miles, which is only 5 miles more than the previous version. However, the Model S Plaid has become heavier by 26 pounds, and its top speed has decreased from 200 to 149 miles per hour.
Demand Issues
Despite the updates, demand for these models remains low. In 2024, Tesla sold about 50,000 units of the Model S and X, significantly less compared to 1.7 million units of the Model 3 and Model Y. Critics point out that the updates are not appealing enough for buyers looking for more modern technology and features.
The company is already facing challenges in selling its expensive models, which may be related to the political situation surrounding Tesla.
