Real Madrid has reached an agreement to sign 17-year-old midfielder Franco Mastantuono from River Plate for six years.
The club announced on Friday that Mastantuono will join the team in August, allowing him to participate in the World Cup. Real will also be competing in this tournament, which will take place in the USA.
Mastantuono becomes Real's third signing of this offseason, following defenders Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dino Huysen.
According to reports, the deal is worth $72.6 million, making this transfer the largest in the history of Argentine football. River Plate demanded that PSG pay his buyout clause of €45 million.
Among the expenses related to the transfer, €11.8 million will go to taxes, €1.4 million to player unions and other fees.
A Great Gem of Argentine Football
Mastantuono is considered one of the brightest talents of his generation. He became the youngest player to debut for the Argentina national team, playing his first minutes in a match against Chile.
The young player can play as a right winger or an attacking midfielder. His game typically starts from the flank, allowing him to use his powerful left foot for shots on goal.
Among his best qualities is an excellent strike on the ball. Recently, he became the youngest player to score in a Superclasico, hitting the net from a free kick outside the penalty area.
Despite his young age, Mastantuono displays an unusual maturity for players of his generation. His physical development exceeds the average level, enabling him to quickly adapt to the intensity of Argentine football.
