Investigation into Air India Plane Crash
The investigation into the causes of the Air India plane crash, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport on June 13, 2025, has begun. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which was en route to the United Kingdom, collided with a building, claiming the lives of 246 people, including 230 passengers and 12 crew members.
A team of Boeing experts has arrived in India to support the investigation being conducted by the Indian Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau. Officials from the United Kingdom and the United States have also arrived in Ahmedabad to participate in the investigation.
Both black boxes have been located; one of them is damaged but still subject to examination. According to international protocol, U.S. representatives are involved in the investigation since the aircraft was manufactured in that country.
Preliminary data suggest a possible engine failure or pilot error, as well as an unusual position of the flaps at the time of takeoff. The Indian aviation regulator has ordered Air India to conduct additional technical inspections of its Boeing 787 fleet.
The Prime Minister of India expressed condolences to the victims' families, and Tata Group, the owner of Air India, has promised to pay ₹1 crore (approximately $116,000) to the relatives of the deceased and cover medical expenses for the injured.
Aviation professor Graham Braithwaite noted that data from the black boxes could provide crucial information for understanding the causes of the crash, provided they are not damaged during retrieval.
