US Moves Military Resources to the Middle East Due to Israeli Strikes

Relocation of US Military Forces

The United States is changing the deployment of its military resources in the Middle East. This is related to Israeli strikes on Iran and potential retaliatory attacks from Tehran, two American officials reported on June 13, 2025.

The US Navy has dispatched the destroyer USS Thomas Hudner to the Eastern Mediterranean. A second destroyer is also planned to be moved, which will be ready for action at the request of the White House.

US President Donald Trump is holding a meeting with members of the National Security Council to discuss the situation. Officials who provided this information requested anonymity.

In recent days, military forces in the region have taken precautions, including the voluntary departure of military families from bases. This is being done in anticipation of possible strikes and to protect personnel in the event of a large-scale response from Iran.

Typically, about 30,000 troops are stationed in the Middle East, but this number has risen to approximately 40,000. It increased to 43,000 in October 2023 amid tensions between Israel and Iran, as well as ongoing attacks on commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea carried out by Iran-aligned Houthis from Yemen.

The Navy has additional forces that can be deployed to the Middle East if needed, including aircraft carriers and accompanying warships. The aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson is currently in the Arabian Sea, while USS Nimitz is in the Indo-Pacific region and can be redirected to the Middle East if necessary.

Previously, on October 1, 2024, US Navy destroyers intercepted about a dozen missiles that Iran launched at Israel in response to attacks from Tehran.
