American Arrested on Greek Island on Suspicion of Murders in Rome

Arrest of the Suspect in Greece

Greek law enforcement arrested the American on Skiathos island on Friday. He is suspected of murdering an infant, whose body was discovered in Villa Pamphili park in Rome, and is also believed to be involved in the death of the child's mother, whose body was also found nearby.

The arrest was made based on a European arrest warrant issued in Italy. The suspect, whose name has not been disclosed, will appear before a judge for an extradition hearing next week.

Circumstances of the Case

The bodies of the mother and child, who were also Americans, were found on Saturday. The mother’s body was hidden under a black bag, while the infant was discovered several hundred meters away in bushes.

The police in Rome declined to comment on the case; however, a press conference is planned to shed light on the details. Authorities believe that the suspect killed the infant after returning to the park.

Investigation and Connection to the Suspect

Establishing the relationship between the suspect and the victims has not yet been possible, but it has been reported that they were staying at a homeless shelter near the Vatican, where they appeared to be a typical family.

Law enforcement was able to identify the suspect through fingerprints on the bag covering the mother’s body and mobile phone data. The woman, who was approximately 30 years old, had a tattoo of a skull on a surfboard.
