Donald Trump is holding a military parade on June 14 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, coinciding with his 79th birthday. The parade will feature thousands of soldiers, military equipment, and aircraft, but it raises concerns due to its high cost and negative environmental impact.
According to a study by the Institute for Political Research, this event will result in emissions of over 2 million kilograms of pollutants, equivalent to the energy used to power 300 households for a year. This is caused by the use of heavy machinery that consumes a large amount of fuel.
The parade is expected to cost taxpayers $45 million, of which $16 million is already allocated for repairing the streets of Washington after the passage of military vehicles. Heavy machinery, including tanks, could cause serious damage to the asphalt.
Although the army claims that the damage will be "minimal," the city has not yet received a formal agreement for cost compensation. In the past, Trump has left some cities with unpaid bills after similar events.
Furthermore, Trump had previously attempted to organize a similar parade during his first term, but it was halted. The military parade has also sparked protests with the slogan "No Kings" across the country.
Studies show that the military significantly contributes to global carbon emissions, and the U.S. Department of Defense is the largest institutional polluter in the world.
