The Hiring Boom of AI Experts at Meta and Advertising Models for AI

  • Mark Zuckerberg is actively recruiting AI experts, offering high salaries.
  • Consumers are unwilling to pay for chatbots, prompting the shift towards advertising models for monetization.
  • Competition in the artificial intelligence sector is increasing, presenting new challenges for companies.

This is reported by The Verge, ZDNet.

The Hiring Boom of AI Experts at Meta

Meta's CEO Mark Zuckerberg is actively hiring artificial intelligence specialists to create a new "superintelligence" lab. According to Bloomberg, Zuckerberg is reaching out to top AI talents via email or WhatsApp, inviting them for brief conversations.

Among the offers he makes are high salaries that can reach eight figures. Notably, he recently hired Alexander Wang, head of Scale AI, for an amount exceeding $14 billion. This became the largest hiring deal in history, surpassing Google’s expenditure to bring back Noam Shazeer with his team.

Zuckerberg is also trying to attract specialists from OpenAI, raising concerns among competitors. For instance, Sam Altman from OpenAI publicly emphasized the importance of developing superintelligence within his company.

Advertising Models for AI

According to a new study by Bloomberg Intelligence, most consumers are not willing to pay for using chatbots. This indicates that advertising models are becoming the primary means of monetizing large language models.

According to a survey, only 25% of users are willing to pay up to $20 per month for a subscription to generative AI tools. However, OpenAI already has over 600 million active users weekly, but the number of paid subscribers remains below 20 million.

Advertising prices on Google remain high, as the company generates significant revenue from search, and OpenAI plans to implement advertising models to improve its financial situation. Meanwhile, the AI infrastructure required to operate ChatGPT is extremely costly, complicating OpenAI's monetization efforts through advertising.

Conclusions

The growing interest in artificial intelligence at Meta is accompanied by new challenges for companies trying to find effective monetization models. As competition intensifies, it is crucial to keep an eye on developments in this field.
