Chauhan arrived at Ahmedabad Airport at 12:20 local time, less than an hour before departure. The airline staff did not allow her to board as check-in had already closed.
Flight AI171 crashed, hitting the medical college shortly after takeoff, resulting in the deaths of 241 people on board. The only survivor was British citizen Vishwash Kumar Ramesh.
Chauhan recounted that after missing her flight, she began discussing a refund with an agent. She learned about the crash only after leaving the airport.
Scenes of Chaos After the Crash
When the plane crashed, a regular lunch break was taking place at BJ Medical College. Students, doctors, and their families were engaged in their activities when suddenly a loud noise erupted. The plane that had just taken off crashed less than a minute after takeoff.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos. Students and doctors rushed outside, trying to understand what had happened. Many sustained injuries, and some lost their lives.
Local residents were the first to arrive at the crash site, attempting to help. They began rescuing people from the debris, but the situation was critical.
According to the dean of the medical college, four students died, as well as several family members. Establishing the exact number of casualties will take time.
