Protesters Arrested Near the Capitol Ahead of Military Parade

Arrests of Protesters

On the evening of June 13, 2025, police arrested about 60 individuals near the U.S. Capitol. According to Capitol Police, a group of protesters breached the police perimeter by circumventing a bicycle barricade and attempted to approach the steps leading to the Capitol rotunda.

At that time, around 75 protesters were peacefully demonstrating their views near the Supreme Court, which is located across the street from the Capitol. As the protesters began to leave the area, police established a perimeter to keep them away from the Capitol.

"Several individuals broke through the barricade and illegally crossed the police line, running towards the steps of the rotunda," the police noted. All those arrested will face charges of unlawful protest and crossing a police line, and some may face additional charges of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest.

Preparation for the Military Parade

The arrests of protesters took place ahead of one of the largest events in Washington in the summer of 2025 – the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The parade is scheduled for June 14, with hundreds of thousands of people expected to attend, along with military equipment including tanks and aircraft, in honor of President Donald Trump's 79th birthday.

The U.S. security service, responsible for the event's safety, has prepared a significant number of security measures, including thousands of police officers, 18 miles of fencing, surveillance drones, and other security elements. Special Agent Matt McCool stated that the security service is closely monitoring protests across the country and has already prepared plans for potential mass protests on Saturday.

Security During the Parade

According to officials, as of the evening of June 13, no threats to the parade and associated events have been reported. Officials emphasized that the security plan is comprehensive and leaves no room for threats.
