- The event is accompanied by protests against authoritarianism and bad weather conditions.
- Military parades in the U.S. are rare, unlike in other countries where they are a common occurrence.
This was reported by Associated Press, El País.
The military parade, dedicated to the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, will take place in Washington on President Donald Trump's birthday, who is celebrating his 79th year. This event, which has sparked widespread resonance, will be the first military parade in the U.S. capital in many years.
Trump was impressed by the military parade in France on Bastille Day in 2017, which inspired him to organize a similar event in the U.S. The parade will feature approximately 6,600 service members, 150 vehicles, and 50 helicopters, which will travel from the Pentagon to the National Mall.
Protests Against the Parade
However, the parade is occurring against the backdrop of numerous protests under the slogan "No Kings" across the country. Organizers of the protests, joined by human rights advocates, claim that this demonstration symbolizes authoritarianism.
Bad weather is also forecasted in Washington, which could affect the event's proceedings. Trump stated that the weather is not a concern for service members; however, rain could hinder aerial performances.
International Parades
Military parades are a common occurrence in many countries, such as France and Spain. They often serve to showcase strength and patriotism, but in the U.S., their occurrence is rare.
Historically, similar parades have also been organized in authoritarian regimes, such as in Germany and Italy during World War II.
