Israeli Strikes Seriously Hit Iran's Nuclear Ambitions
- Israel's extensive attack on Iran's nuclear program resulted in the destruction of part of the facility in Natanz.
- Experts believe that the strikes may delay Iran's development of nuclear weapons by a year.
- Israel will continue its attacks, posing risks to civilian populations and the release of hazardous chemicals.
This was reported by Associated Press, The Independent, Ukrinform.
Israel carried out a large-scale attack on Iran's nuclear program, which had serious consequences for the country's ability to enrich uranium. This operation, which took place on June 14, 2025, destroyed part of the facility in Natanz, where uranium was being enriched to levels exceeding those required for nuclear power plants.
As a result of the attacks, key military figures and nuclear scientists were killed. The backup power for the underground section of the facility was also destroyed, which could lead to damage to more sensitive equipment.
Since the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2018, Iran's nuclear weapons development program has been progressing rapidly. Despite Tehran's claims of the peaceful nature of the program, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran has enough enriched uranium to create several nuclear bombs.
Impact of the Attacks on Iran's Nuclear Program
Experts note that the attacks caused significant damage and are estimated to delay Iran's development of nuclear weapons by a year. Israel aimed to destroy the "brain" of the program and as much equipment as possible.
Damage to Iran's Nuclear Facilities
The attack destroyed the above-ground part of the Natanz facility, where uranium was enriched to 60%. IAEA chief Rafael Grossi confirmed that no increase in radiation levels was detected as a result of the attack.
However, damage to the energy infrastructure could lead to problems with the centrifuges located in the underground part of the facility. At the same time, according to Grossi, no signs of radiation contamination were found in Ukraine, confirming safety for the population.
Potential Further Strikes and Risks
Israel is likely to continue its attacks, as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that strikes will continue as long as the threat exists. Experts note that Israel has exceptional capabilities for precise strikes on key targets.
Additionally, there is a risk that further attacks could not only harm nuclear facilities but also the civilian population due to the potential release of hazardous chemicals such as fluoride.
