Russia Benefits from Rising Oil Prices Due to Conflict in Iran

  • The rise in oil prices may strengthen Russia's military capabilities in Ukraine.
  • Israeli airstrikes on Iran have led to an increase in global oil prices and affected stock markets.
  • Revenue from energy resources accounts for about 30% of Russia's federal revenues in 2024.

This is reported by RBC Ukraine, Ukrinform.

According to a report from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), the sharp rise in global oil prices following Israeli airstrikes on Iran could provide Russia with advantages in its military efforts against Ukraine.

Analysis shows that the increase in oil prices may boost Russia's revenues from oil sales, which, in turn, will enhance the country's ability to support military operations in Ukraine. After the Israeli strikes on June 13, Brent crude prices rose by more than 5%, reaching $74.47 per barrel.

According to ISW, revenues from oil and gas sales accounted for approximately 30% of Russia's total federal revenues in 2024. Analysts note that the growing economic pressure on Russia is gradually undermining its ability to sustain prolonged military campaigns against Ukraine.

Previously, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed concerns about a potential drop in oil prices, emphasizing that it could lead to destabilization of the Russian economy. ISW highlights that Russia may use the sudden rise in oil prices to overcome economic difficulties and finance a protracted war in Ukraine if prices remain high, for instance, above $60 per barrel.

Consequences of Israel's Strike on Iran

On June 13, the Israeli armed forces carried out a series of strikes on military and nuclear facilities in Iran. These attacks had a noticeable impact on global stock markets, as well as on gold and oil prices.

The price of Brent crude reached its highest level since April 2025, while stock markets closed with declines in indices.
