In India, the investigation into the causes of the Air India flight crash, which occurred on June 14, 2025, is ongoing, resulting in the deaths of 270 people, including 241 passengers on board.
The Boeing 787 aircraft, heading to London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad Airport, hitting a residential building. One passenger survived and is currently under medical supervision.
Rescue teams continue to search for bodies among the wreckage, and so far, 270 bodies have been found. Many of them were severely damaged, complicating the identification process. Relatives of the victims have provided DNA samples for comparison, as the recognition process may take up to 72 hours.
Investigation of the Crash
Aviation safety experts and a team from the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch are participating in the investigation. They will examine various factors that may have contributed to the crash, including:
- Bird strikes: Boeing 787 aircraft are capable of taking off on one engine, even if a bird strike occurs. Experts are considering the possibility that both engines may have failed during takeoff.
- Mechanical issues: Investigators will check for any systemic failures that could have affected control of the aircraft after takeoff.
- Human factor: Difficult takeoff conditions with a large amount of fuel and passengers can lead to errors. Experts will focus on the flap settings that may have been improperly adjusted.
- Malicious actions: While such cases do occur, experts believe it is unlikely that the crash was the result of malicious actions.
Final Conclusions
Investigators are currently working to recover data from the flight recorders, which may provide crucial information about the causes of the crash. It is known that this was the first fatal accident of a Boeing 787 in 16 years of operation.
A committee established by the Indian government is also developing procedures to improve aviation safety in the future.
