Agent Detained Who Planned Terrorist Attack Against Military in Odesa

• The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa by detaining an agent who planned an explosion.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) prevented a terrorist attack in Odesa that was planned under the direction of the FSB of Russia. The agent was detained while attempting to plant an explosive device for an attack on a Ukrainian serviceman.

According to SBU information, a 31-year-old local resident planned to install an explosive device with shrapnel elements in a residential area, near a children's playground.

Case Details

The perpetrator was caught at the scene when he had already planted a homemade explosive device. According to the investigation, the agent was recruited through pro-Russian channels on Telegram, where he was offered easy money. Initially, he was instructed to set fire to a military vehicle, after which he received instructions for the terrorist act.

The target of the attack was a Ukrainian officer, and the explosive device was to be detonated remotely using a mobile phone.

According to the plan of the Russian special services, the terrorist act was intended to cause both physical casualties and information resonance. However, the SBU managed to detect the threat and fully document the preparations.

Legal Consequences

The detainee has already been charged under several articles of the Criminal Code:

• Part 2, Article 15; Part 2, Article 258 (attempted terrorist act committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy);

• Part 2, Article 28; Part 2, Article 194 (intentional destruction of property by arson, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy);

• Part 2, Article 28; Part 1, Article 114-1 (obstruction of the lawful activities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine during a special period, committed by a group of individuals in conspiracy).

The detainee is being held in custody without the right to bail.

It is worth noting that the SBU recently uncovered a spy who worked as an electrician in a military unit and adjusted enemy strikes on the central region of Ukraine. Soon after, the Security Service of Ukraine detained a traitor from Kyiv who was preparing a series of terrorist acts in the capital.
