Oakmont Country Club showcased its reputation during the first two rounds of the 10th U.S. Open. In the second round, Sam Burns delivered an impressive score of 65, allowing him to take the lead in the tournament.
Player Results
Burns, with a score of 5 under par, became the leader, while only three players managed to stay below par. He made six birdies, most of which were from less than 10 feet. Despite a shaky finish to the first round, he managed to regroup and displayed consistent play.
J.J. Spaun, who topped the leaderboard after the first round with a flawless 66, finished second, just one stroke behind. Viktor Hovland completed the second round with a 68, keeping him under par.
Challenges for Other Players
Scottie Scheffler, regarded as one of the best players, faced challenges, scoring 71, which left him at 4 over par. Other notable players, such as Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy, also struggled to showcase their best game.
Rain that arrived late in the day led to a suspension of play, and several groups will finish the second round on Saturday morning. Currently, 34 players are within seven strokes of Burns, including world number one Scheffler.
