Equality March Held in Kyiv to Protect LGBT Rights

Equality March in Kyiv

On June 14, 2025, the capital of Ukraine, Kyiv, hosted an Equality March dedicated to protecting the rights of the LGBT community.

According to the non-governmental organization KyivPride, over 1,500 people participated in the event. The march lasted for more than an hour.

Among the participants were military personnel, activists, artists, and diplomats from several countries, including representatives from the European Union, Canada, the United Kingdom, and others.

The march began at 9:00 AM near the Kyiv Museum and passed through the city center. Participants called on the government to protect the LGBT community and to adopt laws recognizing civil partnerships.

This year, the event was held under the slogan "Together for Equality and Victory," with participants emphasizing the need for legislative changes, particularly the legalization of civil partnerships and protection against hate crimes.

One participant, veteran Viktor Pylypenko, stressed the importance of recognizing family partnerships for military personnel and civilians. Currently, if a military member from the LGBT community dies, their family is not considered legal.

During the march, 20,000 hryvnias were raised for the fund of Serhiy Sternenko, and a total of over 212,000 hryvnias were collected during the KyivPride events.

After the conclusion of the Equality March, a "March for the Defense of Family, Children, and Ukraine" took place in the city center, gathering several thousand participants, some of whom were wearing masks.

In connection with the marches, the "Teatralna" metro station was temporarily closed for incoming and outgoing traffic, and traffic was restricted on several streets.
