Zelensky Comments on Escalation of Conflict Between Iran and Israel
- Zelensky expressed concern over the escalation of the conflict between Iran and Israel, which heightens risks for Ukraine.
- He emphasized the importance of capping oil prices to prevent an increase in Russia's energy revenues.
- The President announced new negotiations with the United States to discuss support for Ukraine and the impact of Israeli strikes on Iran's military industry.
This was reported by RBC Ukraine, Interfax Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during a briefing, expressed concern about the new wave of conflict between Iran and Israel, which creates additional risks for Ukraine in the energy and security sectors.
Zelensky noted that the consequences of Israeli strikes on Iran are already being felt: oil prices are rising, which benefits Russia. If export price caps are not implemented, Russia will gain additional revenues that could be directed towards the war against Ukraine.
"This factor certainly does not help us. Therefore, our voice will be stronger in negotiations with the American side regarding the introduction of price caps and the imposition of sanctions against Russia's energy sector," the president said.
He also announced new contacts with the United States, including meetings with Donald Trump, to discuss oil restrictions and continued support for Ukraine.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of assessing the impact of Israeli strikes on Iran's military industry. If factories producing Shahed drones and missiles were indeed damaged, it could directly affect Iran's ability to supply weapons to Russia.
"We hope that relevant production or transfers to Russia will decrease. This will help Ukraine," the head of state noted.
Conflict Between Israel and Iran
Recall that on June 13, Israeli military forces launched missile strikes on Iran. Numerous military facilities were hit, including nuclear sites, specifically uranium enrichment facilities in Natanz and Fordow.
This occurred against the backdrop of failed negotiations between the U.S. and Iran regarding a new nuclear agreement. In response, Iran launched an attack on Israel, firing no less than 150 rockets, some of which were intercepted.
However, direct hits were recorded in several cities, resulting in fires in Tel Aviv and Ramat Gan, with some residents trapped under debris.
