Zelensky Explains Delays in Negotiations with Russia

  • Zelensky believes that Russia is dragging out the negotiations by offering unacceptable terms.
  • The President emphasized the need for compromise to end the war.
  • Ukraine is ready for dialogue but will not accept ultimatums.

This was reported by Ukrinform, Interfax Ukraine.

Delays in Negotiations with Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Russia is deliberately delaying the negotiation process. According to the President, the Russian side has submitted a so-called "memo" that is an ultimatum that Ukraine cannot accept.

Zelensky noted that Russia understands that their demands contradict the Constitution of Ukraine and international law. "They did not write this for us to accept it," he emphasized in an interview.

The President also pointed out that a genuine desire to end the war implies seeking a compromise, whereas Russia only issues ultimatums similar to those made in 2022.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine is ready to negotiate but will not accept ultimatums. He provided examples of how Russia tries to destroy Ukrainian identity, claiming to protect Russian-speaking people in Ukraine.

According to reports, the second round of negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations took place in Istanbul on June 2, while the first meeting occurred on May 16.
