The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced new decisions in response to recent statements made by Russian leader Vladimir Putin. During a speech at an economic forum in Saint Petersburg, Putin reiterated his claims to all of Ukraine's territory, asserting that "wherever a Russian soldier stands, that is our land."
Zelensky noted that these statements are serious signals of the Kremlin's intentions, and Ukraine must respond to them. He emphasized that Russia does not plan to stop, which requires new measures from Ukraine for its defense.
New International Sanctions
The President announced the introduction of new international sanctions against Russia. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine is aware of the targets for sanctions and measures will be taken against all who cooperate with Russia or support it in occupied territories.
Increased Funding for Drones
Zelensky also reported plans to direct more resources towards the production of drones that will be used to defend Ukrainian positions. This includes both drones for deep strikes and for specific frontline defense.
Personnel Changes in the Diplomatic Corps
Additionally, changes in Ukraine's diplomatic corps are planned to enhance effectiveness in relations with international partners. Zelensky noted that the results of these changes will be assessed in a month during a meeting with all Ukrainian ambassadors.
Threat from Russia
Zelensky emphasized that Putin's threats concern not only Ukraine but also other countries that may find themselves under threat from Russian imperialism, such as Belarus, the Baltic states, Moldova, and others.
The President stressed that Ukraine is ready to defend its independence and will cooperate with partners to do so.
